Changing home page images

In this tutorial we’ll instruct how to change out the background images in our Carbon Pro Photo design.

Changing the background home page image using the editor

Changing the background home page images step by step

To edit the home page background image, first make sure you’re on the home page template in the ProPhoto customizer.

Look for the block labeled “header block” and click the settings icon, then “customize.”

After selecting the settings icon, you should be on the “block appearance” tab. Scroll down and you’ll see the image we have uploaded.

Background Image Sizing

We sized all the header images in the Carbon theme to be 2000 x 800px @72dpi. We generally save as 6 quality JPEG in photoshop or about 60 in Lightroom. To maximize the quality but keep a small file size we also use JPEGMINI Pro.

Keep in mind our size settings are just guidelines for the design, you can upload whatever size you want, if you want the header to be smaller you would upload an image with the same width but a smaller height.

Fonts used in Carbon

The first step is to simply download the fonts from the web and install them to your machine to use them in Photoshop and other places. We can’t include the fonts in the downloads since they aren’t ours legally to include, but we always use free fonts found on the web.

When downloading fonts, they’ll come as .zip file. Double click the zip file to unpackage it onto your machine, then simply double click the fonts to install them.

USING FONTS IN PRO PHOTO

To edit the overall font style for the entire design go to:

ProPhoto > Customizer > Switch to Design Level (The blue rounded button) Click the Menu Icon > Fonts > Styles

There, you can switch out google fonts, change styles, upload your own, etc. All the font styles are applied to the various blocks, columns, rows, and tiles in the design throughout the customizer. On the styles screen you’ll be able to edit existing styles (and they’ll change across the entire design) or add new ones and apply those wherever you wish.
